Using Message Reactions in Group Chat

Overview

Message reactions let you quickly respond to messages in Group Chat without typing a reply. React with a thumbs up, heart, laughing face, fire, or checkmark to acknowledge messages, show agreement, or express excitement.

How to React to a Message

  1. Hover over (or tap on mobile) any message in the Group Chat

  2. A reaction bar appears with the 5 reaction icons

  3. Click the reaction you want to add

  4. Your reaction appears below the message with a count

Reaction Details

  • Multiple reactions: You can add multiple different reactions to the same message

  • One per type: You can only add each reaction type once per message (clicking again removes it)

  • Reaction counts: Each reaction shows a number indicating how many people reacted with that emoji

  • Remove a reaction: Click the same reaction again to remove yours

  • Everyone can see reactions: All group members can see who reacted (hover over the count to see names)

When to Use Reactions

Reactions are perfect for:

  • Acknowledging announcements without cluttering the chat with "OK" messages

  • Voting informally β€” "Give a πŸ‘ if you're interested in the sunset cruise"

  • Showing enthusiasm β€” πŸ”₯ for exciting trip updates

  • Confirming you've read something β€” βœ… for important instructions

  • Keeping chat clean β€” one reaction replaces dozens of "sounds good" messages

Tips

  • Reactions help reduce chat noise β€” instead of 20 people typing "great!", a quick πŸ‘ or ❀️ gets the point across

  • Organizers can use reactions as a quick informal poll β€” "React with πŸ”₯ if you want to do the snorkeling excursion"

  • Reactions work on all message types including text messages and announcements
