How to Fix a Booking When Travelers Accidentally Pay for Multiple People (Pay Separately Workaround)

A simple workaround to help travelers split their booking so each person can pay individually, even if one traveler accidentally paid for everyone.

Updated over a week ago

SquadTrip offers a Pay Separately option, where each traveler can choose to pay only their portion of a shared-occupancy package. However, sometimes a traveler may accidentally select “Pay for 2 Travelers” (or more), which charges them for multiple people.

If guests booked on one account instead of two, and one traveler mistakenly paid for everyone, here’s how you can help them split the booking so each guest pays individually.

Workaround: Use a Promo Code to Split Payments

When one traveler has already paid for multiple people, you can create a promo code to credit the second traveler for their portion of the deposit. This allows them to book individually without paying the full upfront amount again.

How to Do It

  • Go to Trip Data, locate the traveler’s name, open Edit Order, select the package with Pay Separately enabled, and use the pencil icon to update the traveler quantity.

  • Create a promo code equal to the second traveler’s portion that was already paid so they can rebook without paying that amount again. You can learn how to create promo codes here: Creating Promo Codes

  • Send the promo code to the second traveler so they can rebook the trip individually.

  • Once they apply the promo code at checkout, they will only be charged their portion, and their installment plan will be calculated correctly.

This method allows both travelers to continue with their own invoices, payment plans, and balances without the need for a full or partial refund.

Note: You may opt to refund the amount rather than use a promo code, but note that refunds carry about a 3% fee. Please refer to this article for more details: Refund Deductions from Your Account
