Overview
SquadTrip lets you customize Group Chat notifications so you get the updates that matter without being overwhelmed. Settings are managed from the Settings > Notifications page and apply globally to all your trips. By default, Daily Digest and Organizer Announcements are on, while Real-Time Notifications are off.
Getting to Notification Settings
Click your profile icon or navigate to Settings
Select "Notifications" from the settings menu
Your notification preferences appear with toggles for each setting
Notification settings are found on the Settings > Notifications page -- not inside the Group Chat view.
Available Notification Settings
Setting | What It Controls | Default |

Mute All Notifications | Turns off ALL chat notifications at once | Off |
Toggle each setting on or off. Changes save automatically.
What Each Setting Does
Daily Digest Email -- A once-daily email summarizing chat activity from the past 24 hours. Great for catching up in batches. See Daily Chat Digest Email for details.
Organizer Announcements -- Notifications for important messages from your trip organizer (itinerary updates, payment reminders, logistics changes). Recommended to keep on.
Mentions (Coming Soon) -- Will notify you when someone types @YourName in the chat. This feature is currently in development.
Real-Time Notifications -- Instant browser or push notifications as messages arrive. Off by default -- enable it if you want alerts for every new message.
Mute All Notifications -- Turns off everything. Overrides all individual settings. When you unmute, your previous preferences are restored.
Recommended Setups
Profile | Digest | Announcements | Real-Time | Mute |
Default (keep me in the loop) | On | On | Off | Off |
Everything live | On | On | On | Off |
I'll check when I want | Off | On | Off | Off |

Important Notes
Settings apply to your account globally -- not per-trip
Muting overrides all other individual settings
Keep Organizer Announcements on -- these contain essential trip logistics
If the group is very active, rely on the Daily Digest instead of Real-Time
Start with defaults and adjust once you see how active the group is
Troubleshooting
Problem | Solution |
Can't find notification settings | Go to Settings > Notifications. They are not inside the Group Chat view. |
Not receiving any notifications | Check that "Mute All Notifications" is off. Then verify individual settings are toggled on. |
Getting too many notifications | Turn off "Real-Time Notifications" and rely on the Daily Digest instead. |
Mentions not working | The @mentions feature is Coming Soon and not yet active. It will be enabled in a future update. |
Changed settings but nothing happened | Settings save automatically. Try refreshing the page. If the issue persists, log out and back in. |
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Do notification settings apply per-trip or globally? A: Settings apply to your account globally. If you toggle a setting off, it affects notifications across all trips you're part of. There is no way to set different preferences for different trips.
Q: What happens when I mute all notifications and then unmute? A: Muting overrides all individual settings temporarily. When you toggle "Mute All" back off, your previous individual preferences (Daily Digest, Announcements, Real-Time) are automatically restored to whatever they were before muting.
Q: When will the @mentions feature be available? A: The @mentions notification feature is currently in development and marked as "Coming Soon." It will be enabled in a future update. You'll be able to get notified when someone specifically mentions your name in the chat.
Q: Can the organizer override my notification preferences? A: No. Your notification settings are personal and only you can change them. Organizers cannot force travelers to receive specific notification types.
