Overview
SquadTrip lets you customize Group Chat notifications so you get the updates that matter without being overwhelmed. Settings are managed from Settings > My Profile (Chat Notification Preferences) and apply globally to all your trips. By default, Daily Digest and Organizer Announcements are on, while Real-Time is off. Today the Daily Digest is the only chat notification SquadTrip sends -- the Organizer Announcements and Real-Time toggles are saved with your preferences but do not send separate alerts yet.
Getting to Notification Settings
Open the menu under your name and click Settings
On My Profile, scroll to Chat Notification Preferences
Two toggles appear -- Daily Digest (6 PM EST) and Mute All Chat Notifications -- with a note that @Mentions, Organizer Announcements and Real-Time are Coming Soon
Notification settings are found on the Settings > My Profile page -- not inside the Group Chat view.
Available Notification Settings
Only Daily Digest and Mute All can be changed today; the other rows are stored preferences that the My Profile page lists as Coming Soon.

Toggle each setting on or off -- it saves by itself a moment later and shows "Chat notification preferences saved!".
What Each Setting Does
Daily Digest (6 PM EST) -- A once-daily email summarizing chat activity from the past 24 hours, sent only when there are messages from the last 24 hours you haven't read yet. Great for catching up in batches. See Daily Chat Digest Email for details.
Organizer Announcements -- Stored with your preferences (not changeable from My Profile today). It is saved with your preferences, but a separate announcement alert is not sent yet -- organizer messages reach you in the chat and in the Daily Digest.
Mentions (Coming Soon) -- Will notify you when someone types @YourName in the chat. It is listed as Coming Soon on My Profile.
Real-Time (All Messages) -- Off by default and stored with your preferences (not changeable from My Profile today). The toggle is saved with your preferences, but SquadTrip does not currently send browser, push or per-message email alerts -- open the Group Chat to see new messages as they arrive.
Mute All Chat Notifications -- Stops the Daily Digest (and any future chat notifications) regardless of the other toggles. Your other toggles are left as they were, so unmuting restores them.

Important Notes
Settings apply to your account globally -- not per-trip
Muting overrides all other individual settings
Keep Organizer Announcements on -- these contain essential trip logistics
If the group is very active, rely on the Daily Digest instead of Real-Time
Start with defaults and adjust once you see how active the group is
Troubleshooting
Problem | Solution |
Can't find notification settings | Go to Settings > My Profile. They are not inside the Group Chat view. |
Not receiving any notifications | Check that Mute All Chat Notifications is off and Daily Digest is on (it saves automatically). The digest only goes out when there are unread messages from the last 24 hours. |
Getting too many notifications | The Daily Digest is at most one email per trip per day. Turn on Mute All Chat Notifications if you want none. |
Mentions not working | The @mentions feature is Coming Soon and not yet active -- it is listed as Coming Soon on My Profile. |
Changed settings but nothing happened | Wait a moment after toggling (preferences save automatically and show "Chat notification preferences saved!"). Then refresh the page; if the issue persists, log out and back in. |
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Do notification settings apply per-trip or globally? A: Settings apply to your account globally. If you toggle a setting off, it affects notifications across all trips you're part of. There is no way to set different preferences for different trips.
Q: What happens when I mute all notifications and then unmute? A: Muting overrides all individual settings temporarily. When you toggle "Mute All" back off, your previous individual preferences (Daily Digest, Announcements, Real-Time) are automatically restored to whatever they were before muting.
Q: When will the @mentions feature be available? A: The @mentions notification feature is currently in development and marked as "Coming Soon." There is no release date yet.
Q: Can the organizer override my notification preferences? A: No. Your notification settings are personal and only you can change them. Organizers cannot force travelers to receive specific notification types.
