What are Room Types and How Do You Create Them
Updated over a month ago

Room Types makes it possible for you to create dynamic package pricing based on room types, bed configurations, occupancy limits, traveler types, and more. Room Types are best used for cruise style booking, trips with variable length of stay packages, specific bed configuration or occupancy limits, or even multiple hotel options. The possibilities are endless.

How do Room Types work?

Room Types makes it easy to offer a specific accommodation type, room selection, and occupancy limits based on packages.

Room Types is made up of Room Category and Room Option. In the example below:

  • The purple box labeled "Lily Deck - Room 301" is a Room Category. It includes a name, description, and photos that relate to all associated Room Options.

  • The blue box shows Room Options, which include traveler occupancy limits, per traveler pricing, and booking buttons. Room Options are linked to one or more packages.

  • The red box represents the Room Type, where travelers can book one type per room.

🙌 Room Category and Room Option names are fully customizable and can be named anything to accommodate the trip type.

How do I enable Room Types?

When you create packages in the Trip Builder, you have the option to toggle the pricing based on the Room Type by using the "Set pricing on room types" feature.

When this option is selected and the package is saved, a tab called "Room Types" will appear in the Trip Builder.

Examples of How You can use Room Types

"Room Types" is highly customizable based on the trip you're planning. If you don’t see a scenario that fits your plan, send us a message, and we’ll be happy to assist!

Hotel Room Booking (Bed Configurations)

It's common for you to offer specific hotel room selections. For example, "City View Suite with 1 King Bed" or "Pool Side Suite with 2 Queen Beds". Instead of creating multiple packages to create specific room selections, bed configurations and limit traveler occupancy, Room Types can be used to streamline the booking experience.

In this Hotel Booking - Bed Configurations example:

  • Packages are used to distinguish different level of offerings or length of stay.

  • Room Category describes the type of room (City View, Pool Side).

  • Room Option describes the bed configuration.

  • Pricing is tiered based on the number of travelers in the room.

Hotel Room Booking (Traveler Type Configurations)

Some all-inclusive resorts have variable pricing based on the type and quantity of traveler(s) occupying the room. To provide the most accurate pricing, you can create specific room options for each traveler type combination.

In this Hotel Booking - Traveler Type example:

  • Packages are used to distinguish different level of offerings and length of stay, or Room Type name.

  • Room Category describes the type of room in the resort (Pad Suite).

  • Room Option describes the traveler type occupancies and traveler requirements. If there are not enough travelers in the room, then the traveler cannot book the specific room rate.

  • Pricing is tiered based on the number and type of travelers in the room.

Cruise Ship Booking (Bed Configurations)

Cruise bookings can be configured by offering different room types or even specific room numbers on the ship.

Similar to Hotel Bookings, room types can be used to describe different room options on the ship and the bed configurations.

In this Cruise Ship - Bed Configurations Example:

  • Packages are used to distinguish different level of offerings and length of stay, or Room Type name.

  • Room Category describes the type of room on the ship (Interior Room, Oceanfront Room).

  • Room Option describes the traveler type occupancies and traveler requirements.

  • Pricing is tiered based on the number of travelers in the room.

Cruise Ship Booking (Specific Room Numbers)

If you have a full cruise ship buyout and want to offer specific room selections for travelers, you can use room categories to represent the room numbers and room options to specify the bed configurations.

In this Cruise Ship - Bed Configurations Example:

  • Packages are used to distinguish different categories of rooms and deck levels.

  • Room Category describes the exact name and number of the room.

  • Room Option describes the traveler type occupancies and bed configurations.

  • Pricing is tiered based on the number of travelers in the room.
