What is Refer & Receive?
Refer & Receive is a feature that lets you reward travelers who refer their friends and family to join them on a trip. By launching the referral program through SquadTrip, your travelers will get a unique referral link to promote the trip they're going on. The best part is that SquadTrip tracks new bookings and payout amounts for travelers who earn referral rewards.
How can I launch Refer & Receive for my trip?
Select a specific trip and click "Edit" to access the Trip Builder. If you haven't published a trip yet, then click "Add Trip" in your dashboard.
On the left side menu, click "Traveler Referral".
Select "Yes" for the question "Want to activate a traveler referral program for this trip?". This will give you access to offer a reward for travelers who refer others and to set a max earnings amount.
Under Traveler reward for referring others, enter how much you will pay travelers per new booking they refer.
Travelers will see this amount in their Traveler Account.
Under Max earnings for referring traveler, enter an earning cap that travelers can make through referrals.
This feature is off by default. To turn this feature on, switch the toggle to the right.
Click Save. Congratulations, your referral program is live! 🥳
Example Explained:
In the example below, you’ve launched a traveler referral program for a trip. Each time someone books a trip using a traveler's unique referral link, that traveler will earn $100. Since the toggle is turned on, the maximum a traveler can earn for referrals is $1,000. This means they can refer up to 10 travelers and earn up to $1,000.
How do travelers get access to their referral link?
Every traveler who books a trip that has an active referral program will receive a unique referral link in their Traveler Account under their Payments. Travelers can copy and share this unique link. Anytime a new traveler books with this link, SquadTrip will track the booking on the attendee table.
How do I pay travelers their reward?
Payment to travelers who've successfully made referrals occurs at your convenience, outside of SquadTrip, giving you full control over the process. You get to choose when you'll pay your travelers and what method.
ℹ️ We recommend paying travelers after the trip is completed via PayPal, Venmo, or bank transfer. This ensures you're only paying for referrals that went on the trip and paid in full.
How can I track which travelers booked through a referral link?
Each booking made via a traveler's referral link will register that traveler as the affiliate on the attendee table. To view the attendee table, go to Company Stats and select the trip you'd like to see the attendee table for.
Find the column "Affiliate". The name of the traveler who referred the new booking will appear in the "Affiliate" column.
For a complete view of your referral program, you can export an Excel sheet showing how many bookings each traveler has facilitated.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I turn on a Refer & Receive program after I've published a trip?
Yes, you can turn on the referral program after you've published and after you've already received bookings. The program will be activated for any traveler that's already booked on the trip.
Can I change the reward amount for each trip?
Yes, each trip has it's own unique URLs and reward amounts. Follow steps 1-6 under How to Launch a Traveler Referral Program on SquadTrip
What happens if a traveler that was referred by another traveler cancels their booking?
Everything is tracked through SquadTrip and the attendee list. Since payment occurs outside the platform, you have full control over how much you will pay for cancelled or partially refunded bookings.
ℹ️ When you launch your program, we recommend sending an email to your travelers letting them know your referral program policies.
What happens if a traveler refers too many travelers and exceeds the referral cap?
Since payment occurs outside of the platform, you have full control over how much you will pay the traveler. SquadTrip will track all of the bookings from the traveler's unique link, but you get to choose if you'll compensate them beyond the cap.
What happens if I want to cancel the referral program?
If you choose to turn the referral program off for any trip, simply click "No" for the question Would you be interested in our affiliate promotion program?
Once this is turned off, travelers will no longer see a referral link in their Traveler Account. Any referrals made before turning the program off will still be tracked. If continue referring friends after you've closed the program, SquadTrip will continue to track the referrals. However, you have full control over if you'll pay the referral reward.
