Re-engage Travelers Who Didn’t Book

Abandoned cart e-mails automatically remind travelers to complete their booking after registering for a trip but failing to make a deposit.

SquadTrip's 'Abandoned Cart Emails' belong to the older checkout, where a traveler registered first and paid afterwards: they chased travelers who had registered but never paid. Note: with the current checkout, payment is part of booking, so there is no unpaid registration to follow up and these emails no longer go out (none has been sent since March 2026). This article is kept for reference.

What are Abandoned cart e-mails?

An abandoned cart email is an automated message sent to travelers who registered for a group trip but did not complete their booking by making a deposit. This type of email aims to re-engage potential travelers by reminding them to finalize their booking

How do I set up Abandoned cart e-mails?

The Abandoned Cart e-mail is no longer listed under Automatic Email Settings -- there is no subject or message to edit and nothing to set up. It does not apply to the current checkout.

There is nothing to configure per trip or per company, and no action is needed on your side.

Travelers who use your trip's quick-checkout flow do not receive these emails.

How do Abandoned Cart e-mails work?

Abandoned cart e-mails are automatically sent to travelers who register for a group trip but do not complete their booking by making a deposit. On the older checkout this ran for every company while the package and trip were still open for booking. The current checkout takes payment as part of the booking, so no unpaid registrations exist and nothing is sent.

Here is how it worked on the older checkout:

  1. Trip Creation: The group travel organizer creates a trip on the Squadtrip platform.

  2. Registration without Deposit: A traveler registers for the trip but does not make a deposit.

  3. First Email: The system sends the first abandoned cart email 2 hours after the traveler registers without making a deposit.

  4. Second Email: If the deposit is still not made, a second email is sent 2 days later.

  5. Third Email: If the deposit remains unpaid, a third email is sent another 2 days later.

This sequence aims to remind and encourage travelers to complete their bookings, thereby helping organizers secure more bookings and increase their revenue.

⚠️ Note: The setting is company-wide -- it applies to every trip in your account.

📧 Automatic trigger: On the older checkout this email went out on the fixed schedule above (about 2 hours after registration, then every 2 days, three emails at most); there was no timeframe to configure.
