How to Enable or Disable Payment Options on SquadTrip

Learn how to enable, or disable payment options for a trip.

Updated today

Overview

SquadTrip lets you toggle payment methods on or off with a single click, giving travelers more ways to pay at checkout. Card payments are always enabled, and you can add Apple Pay, Klarna, Afterpay, or Affirm from the Payments page. All toggles save automatically -- no Save button needed.

Getting to Payment Options

  1. Log in to your organizer dashboard

  2. Open your trip from Trip Management

  3. Click "Payments" in the left sidebar (under Main Flow)

  4. Expand the "Payments Options" accordion section

The header shows a "Currently ON" summary of your active payment methods (e.g., "Currently ON: Klarna, Apple Pay").

Toggle a Payment Method On or Off

Each payment method has a toggle switch. Click the toggle to turn a method ON or OFF. Changes save automatically -- you'll see a green success banner (e.g., "Klarna setting saved successfully") confirming the change.

If a save fails, the toggle automatically reverts to its previous state.

Important Notes

  • Card payments are always enabled and cannot be disabled

  • BNPL methods (Klarna, Afterpay, Affirm) require a connected Stripe account -- they are not available with Square

  • BNPL adds a 4% convenience fee charged to the traveler at checkout

  • BNPL is only available when the traveler pays in full -- it cannot be combined with installment plans

  • BNPL currency support depends on the provider (see table above) and your Stripe account's regional capabilities

  • All payment options are free for organizers to enable -- there is no cost to turn on additional methods

  • Toggles save one at a time, so you can enable multiple methods in quick succession

Troubleshooting

Problem

Solution

Toggle reverts after clicking

The auto-save failed. Check your internet connection and try again. If it persists, refresh the page.

BNPL options not showing

BNPL requires a connected Stripe account. If you use Square, BNPL is not available. Go to Payments and connect Stripe first.

Apple Pay toggle missing

Apple Pay appears only when you have at least one payment gateway connected. Verify your Stripe or Square connection.

"Currently ON" shows wrong methods

Refresh the page to reload the latest saved state. If the issue persists, contact support.

Traveler doesn't see BNPL at checkout

BNPL only appears for pay-in-full bookings. If the traveler selected an installment plan, BNPL options are hidden. Also check that the trip currency matches the provider's supported currencies.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do I need to pay anything to enable additional payment methods like Klarna or Apple Pay? A: No. All payment options are free for organizers. The standard 6% processing fee applies to all transactions regardless of method. BNPL providers add a separate 4% convenience fee charged directly to the traveler, not the organizer.

Q: Can I offer Buy Now, Pay Later if my payment gateway is Square instead of Stripe? A: No. Klarna, Afterpay, and Affirm are only available through Stripe. If you currently use Square and want to offer BNPL, you'll need to connect a Stripe account from the Payments page. You can have both gateways connected simultaneously.

Q: What happens to existing bookings if I disable a payment method after travelers have already used it? A: Disabling a method only affects future checkouts. Travelers who already paid with that method keep their existing payment records. No refunds or changes are triggered by toggling a method off.

Q: Does enabling BNPL work with installment payment plans? A: No. Buy Now, Pay Later is only available when a traveler selects the pay-in-full option at checkout. If your trip offers installment plans, travelers who choose installments will see card and Apple Pay options only. BNPL and installments cannot be combined.

Q: Which currencies does each BNPL provider support? A: Klarna supports USD and GBP on SquadTrip. Afterpay supports USD, CAD, GBP, AUD, and NZD. Affirm supports USD only. BNPL is not available for EUR trips. Currency availability also depends on your Stripe account's region and capabilities.
