Overview
SquadTrip gives organizers flexible payment options to match how their travelers prefer to pay. You can accept credit and debit cards, Apple Pay, installment plans, and Buy Now, Pay Later financing -- all through your connected Stripe or Square account. Every option is free for organizers to enable, and you can customize which methods are available per trip.

Payment Gateways
Stripe (Default)
All organizers connect a Stripe account to start accepting payments. Stripe supports all payment methods listed above.
Square (Fallback)
Square is available as an alternative if Stripe has restricted or rejected your account. You connect one gateway at a time -- either Stripe or Square, not both simultaneously. Square supports card payments only -- no BNPL or Apple Pay.
Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL)
BNPL allows travelers to pay in full at checkout using a third-party financing provider:
Afterpay -- 4 interest-free bi-weekly payments
Klarna -- Pay in 4, Pay Later (14-30 days), or financing (6-36 months)
Affirm -- Monthly payments, 3-36 months
Important:
A 4% convenience fee is added to the traveler's total when using BNPL
BNPL is only available for "Pay in Full" -- not with installment plans
BNPL requires Stripe (not available through Square)
BNPL is not available for EUR currency
Payment Processing
All transactions are processed through your connected payment gateway and deposited directly into your account. Payout scheduling can be configured within your Stripe or Square dashboard.
Cost: All payment options are free for organizers to enable. The platform charges a flat processing fee -- see Payments and Fees for details.
Troubleshooting
Problem | Solution |
Apple Pay not appearing at checkout | Apple Pay requires a compatible device (iPhone, iPad, Mac with Safari) and an active card in the Apple Wallet. Ensure you have toggled Apple Pay on in your trip's payment settings. |
BNPL options missing from checkout page | BNPL requires Stripe (not Square), USD currency, a U.S.-based traveler, and the "Pay in Full" option selected. Verify all conditions are met and that BNPL is enabled in your trip settings. |
Installment plan not available for a traveler | Installment plans require auto-billing to be enabled and a minimum deposit of $35. Check your trip's billing settings to confirm both requirements are configured. |
Traveler says a payment method was declined | The decline comes from the payment gateway or card issuer, not SquadTrip. Ask the traveler to verify their card details, try a different card, or contact their bank. |
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Do I have to pay extra to offer BNPL to my travelers? A: No. Enabling BNPL is free for organizers. The traveler pays a 4% convenience fee at checkout when they choose Klarna, Afterpay, or Affirm. The BNPL provider may also charge the traveler interest depending on their repayment plan.
Q: Can I offer installment plans and BNPL on the same trip? A: Yes, but a traveler must choose one or the other at checkout. BNPL is only available when the traveler selects "Pay in Full." If they choose an installment plan, BNPL options will not appear.
Q: Do I need to set up separate accounts with Klarna, Afterpay, or Affirm? A: No. BNPL providers are automatically available through your Stripe connection. There is no additional signup or configuration required beyond connecting your Stripe account to SquadTrip.
Q: Can I disable specific payment methods for a particular trip? A: Yes. You can toggle Apple Pay and BNPL options on or off for each trip from the trip's payment settings page. Credit and debit cards are always enabled and cannot be disabled.
Q: What happens if a traveler's BNPL application is declined? A: The BNPL provider handles approval decisions independently. If declined, the traveler can choose a different BNPL provider or pay with a credit card, debit card, or Apple Pay instead.
